Reflex Nutrition is in the very enviable position of being one of the only, ISO9001 registered manufacturers of sports nutrition products. We are one of the only supplement companies in the world that manufactures to ISO9001 standards and that tests its products in accordance with ISO17025 (What this translates to is that we test our products for cross-contaminants as well as impurities at levels of sensitivity of 50 particles per billion).
During the last decade we've focused very heavily on repeatable quality that can be measured both in the lab and in the real tangible results through the use of our products. Many supplement companies profess to be unrivalled in their offering and the “best” on the market but almost none are able to substantiate those claims. At Reflex we approach the market differently. We provide the consumer with the facts and then allow the consumer to make their own decisions. Our aim is straight forward. We want to give you, the consumer: easy to understand information, based on
factual research and accreditations. Reflex’s ultimate goal is to ensure that you are better equipped to make the right choice when you buy your supplements and understand the possible shortcuts that are sometimes taken by less credible companies, which consumers are often unaware of. The obvious question is "Why have other supplement companies not adopted this approach?"
Ask the following questions about your current supplement supplier:
Do they manufacture their products using organic oats and natural barley (all low GI carbohydrates) instead of synthetic carbohydrates like Maltodextrin (high GI carbohydrates)?
Do their products contain the necessary digestive enzymes and Lactospore to prevent bloating and aid digestion?
Are they ISO9001 accredited?
Are they ISO17025 accredited?
Can they guarantee their products free of cross-contaminants and pro-hormones?
Do they have certificates of origin and testing for each ingredient used?
Can they guarantee that what is on the label is in the product each and every time (Reflex uses standardized manufacturing processes)
Have they had over 10 years of experience in the supplement industry?
Do they test their products prior to going to shelves for contaminants? (Many companies will only test once there is a complaint)
Does you current supplier dilute their protein quality with fillers such as soy and skimmed milk? Reflex does not.
Reflex offers all of the above. If companies make general statements and do not state specific accreditations or affiliations, it is safe to assume it is due to the fact that they do not have them. They are very costly and difficult to attain due to the high standards required.
Supplements in South Africa are not regulated
What many consumers do not realize is that supplements are not regulated in South Africa by the Medical Control Council. Supplements are not subjected to standardized testing, this means that customers cannot be sure that the ingredients contained on the label are actually in the supplement itself or be sure that it does not contain contaminated substances.
This can only be assured by companies that enforce standardized manufacturing processes and testing, such as ISO9001 and ISO17052. Additionally, companies are free to advertise any health claims they want, often falsely marketing their herbs without referencing the supplement’s potentially harmful side effects.
Below are a few things to remember before purchasing supplementation
Stick with tried and tested supplements that have been around for years. Products like whey, Creatine monohydrate and L-Glutamine. Avoid the new “wonder” supplements that have not been proven to work and make unsubstantiated claims.
Look at the label on the package. The label will indicate if the product has undergone third-party testing for purity and safety.
Pay attention to your body’s reaction to the supplement. Be aware of any side effects and discontinue use if you experience any.
Research the company online.
Remember if the product promises fixes that sound too good to be true, they probably are.
